OUR HISTORY

The Wyatt Holliday Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2004. Our mission is to provide advocacy services to families with special needs children, inclusive of diagnosis. Our goal is to empower families with special needs children in our local community. In 2003, a 9-year-old boy named Wyatt Holliday was killed in a car accident on Interstate 5. In memory of her son, Wyatt's mother, Therese Holliday, founded The Wyatt Holliday Foundation. Wyatt had Asperger Syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder. The Holliday family struggled to get the appropriate therapies, educational support, and assistance for him over the years. The Foundation honors Wyatt's memory in the area of special needs advocacy. The Wyatt Holliday Foundation offers referrals to advocates and attorneys specializing in special education. We host workshops and conferences focusing on special needs, and offer teleconference calls for interactive learning. Our online community outreach program, Exceptional Families Network, offers a variety of information and community networking opportunities. We have recently partnered with SPECIAL Families of Pierce County to further our commitment to community and advocacy. This parent support group meets monthly and also houses a lending library, providing valuable resources to local families. Our long term goal is to open a school for children of varying special needs, called "Wyatt's House". This school would provide a truly therapeutic educational environment.

Owen Beach at Point Defiance Park

Join us for a leisurely 3K walk with scenic views of Vashon Island, Gig Harbor, Northeast Tacoma, and panoramic views of Puget Sound waters.  The walk begins at Owen Beach and loops to Anthony’s Restaurant and back.  Booths will have interesting and fun activities for adults and children, and we’ll have great music, too!

Walk & Roll Participants
The Promenade Walkway at Owen Beach is ideal for this walk as it is flat and paved — perfect for leisurely walking, power walking, wheelchairs and strollers.  A “break” area will be provided at the halfway point should participants need a quiet moment.  ADA restroom facilities will be available.  Please, no rollerblades and no dogs unless they are service animals.

Day of the Event
Participants should plan to arrive by 8:30 a.m. to sign a waiver and check in with the registration desk.  Please note that all participants are required to sign a waiver.  Minors are required to have the signature of a parent or guardian.
At check-in, each walker will receive a commemorative walk t-shirt, bottled water, and an event bag.  Children who are experiencing sensory difficulties at any time can decompress in the sensory tent, where we will have various toys available, as well as a professional to aid with sensory regulation.  Sponsors and supporters will have booths open for participants following the walk.
Booths will close at 12:00 p.m.
